PFAS is Everywhere—And the World is Paying Attention

Posted by Nathan Bierschenk on March 10, 2025

“The conversation around PFAS contamination has never been louder,” says David Trueba, President and CEO at Revive Environmental. “With widespread media coverage – consumers, businesses, and regulators are becoming acutely aware of the dangers of these ‘forever chemicals.’”

PFAS are found everywhere—in nonstick cookware, waterproof jackets, food packaging, firefighting foams, and even our drinking water. As more studies link PFAS exposure to serious health risks, the demand for PFAS destruction solutions has skyrocketed. The good news? PFAS destruction is a growing field and Revive is leading the charge.

The EPA Set the Standard – Now the World is Following

The global push for PFAS elimination gained momentum in April 2024, when the EPA finalized the first-ever national drinking water standard for PFAS. The rule set legally enforceable limits on multiple PFAS chemicals, requiring public water systems to reduce PFAS contamination to the lowest feasible levels. It was a landmark moment that underscored the urgency of tackling PFAS at its source.  Companies are taking action to eliminate PFAS from their supply chains, wastewater, and industrial waste streams, driving demand for complete PFAS destruction.

This isn’t just happening in the U.S.—it’s a global movement.

  • France: In February 2025, France became the first country to ban PFAS in many consumer products. Beginning in 2026, PFAS will be prohibited in cosmetics, textiles, and ski waxes, with a full ban on all textiles by 2030. The country is also imposing polluter-pays fees on companies that release PFAS into the environment and strengthening PFAS monitoring in drinking water.
  • Canada: In March 2025, the Canadian government announced a major crackdown on PFAS, listing them as a full class of toxic chemicals under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). Canada is phasing out PFAS in firefighting foams and pushing for safer alternatives to PFAS-contaminated firefighter gear. These actions position Canada as one of the world leaders in tackling PFAS exposure.

As more countries take bold steps to regulate PFAS, companies must move beyond temporary fixes. The demand for PFAS treatment solutions that permanently destroy these chemicals—not just relocate them—is only increasing.

A Growing Industry

While some industries are seeing uncertainty, the demand for PFAS destruction is growing. Companies and governments are actively seeking proven PFAS elimination technologies, fueling growth in the environmental sector.

Revive is expanding to meet this demand. As our Chief Commercial Officer, Rick Gillespie, told the Associated Press:

“Despite the uncertain economy, Revive is bullish about its future. The company plans to add 10 to 20 new employees in Columbus, Ohio, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, in the next few months.”

This growth reflects the broader trend: environmental contamination mitigation is an industry on the rise—one that isn’t just about compliance but about real impact.
