Case Study: U.S. Air Force Deploys SCWO to Destroy PFAS at Peterson Space Force Base

As PFAS regulations tighten, the U.S. Air Force is leading the way in environmental compliance. At Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, the Air Force partnered with Revive Environmental to demonstrate verified PFAS destruction using the PFAS Annihilator®—a supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) system designed for field deployment.

Through this cold-weather demonstration, Revive destroyed PFAS from AFFF-contaminated water at concentrations up to 400 µg/L, achieving >99.99% destruction while collecting regulatory-grade emissions and byproduct data.

What This PFAS Destruction Demonstration Proved

  • 99.99% destruction of PFAS from concentrated and unconcentrated AFFF-contaminated water
  • Field deployment of mobile SCWO unit under cold weather conditions
  • Third-party analysis of vapor, effluent, salts, and byproducts
  • Demonstrated viability of SCWO for scalable DoD remediation programs

Why it Matters

This project is a model for how military installations and federal agencies can meet new CERCLA requirements for PFOA and PFOS, eliminate long-term liability, and implement PFAS destruction solutions that are mobile, validated, and operationally ready.
