Celebrating Success: Revive Environmental’s AFFF Takeback Initiative in New Hampshire, Ohio, and Beyond
Revive Environmental (Revive) is proud to partner with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) in their significant step forward in making water safe by eliminating PFAS contamination from aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF). As the prime contractor for the initiative, Revive managed every aspect of the program, from registration and coordination with NHDES to the collection and transport of AFFF through our partnership with Republic Services. This initiative marks another milestone in our growing legacy of successful takeback events, including prior efforts with the State of Ohio’s EPA.
A New Standard for PFAS Takeback Initiatives
Our recent AFFF takeback initiative in New Hampshire was a resounding success, with over 20 earned media stories, including NH Business Review, NH Public Radio, The Boston Globe, and WCAX3 Vermont, highlighting the importance and impact of this program. The initiative focused on safely collecting and destroying firefighting foams containing PFAS, a critical step in protecting New Hampshire’s water sources and public health.
New Hampshire Highlights:
- Registered and collected over 12,000 gallons of AFFF from over 125 fire departments across the state through 10 county-wide events.
- Approximately 250 different types of AFFF collected, from approximately 40 different manufacturers.
- Facilitated community collection events with NHDES to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Managed the safe transport and destruction of collected AFFF in partnership with Republic Services.
- This initiative was not just about removing harmful substances; it was about setting a standard for how takeback events can be effectively conducted with a focus on safety, compliance, and public awareness.
- Destruction of PFAS in the AFFF to be completed at Revive’s facility in Columbus, Ohio.

These initiatives also garnered significant public and media attention, further cementing our reputation as a trusted leader in PFAS removal and destruction.
Ohio Highlights:
- Successfully coordinated takeback events across multiple regions, collecting substantial quantities of AFFF.
- Delivered comprehensive support to Ohio’s EPA, from planning through execution, ensuring a seamless and effective program.
- Destruction of PFAS in the AFFF underway at Revive facilities.
